About Course

Module 1: Number & Finance

This module builds the foundation for working confidently with numbers in everyday life and introduces students to practical financial concepts. It combines core arithmetic skills with applied problem‑solving, ensuring learners can connect mathematics to real‑world contexts such as shopping, budgeting, and money management.

1.Operations with Whole Numbers, Integers, Fractions & Decimals

  • Whole numbers: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

  • Integers: Positive and negative numbers, rules for operations with signs.

  • Fractions: Simplifying, comparing, and performing operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

  • Decimals: Place value, rounding, and operations in everyday contexts (e.g., money, measurements).

  • Outcome: Students develop fluency in handling all number types and understand how they connect.

2. Percentages & Percentage Change

  • Calculating percentages of quantities.

  • Finding percentage increase/decrease (e.g., discounts, profit/loss).

  • Real‑life applications: sales, tax, interest rates.

  • Outcome: Students can interpret and calculate changes in everyday financial situations.

3. Ratios & Rates

  • Understanding ratios as comparisons between quantities.

  • Simplifying ratios and solving problems involving proportion.

  • Rates: speed, cost per unit, density.

  • Outcome: Students apply ratios and rates to practical problems like recipes, travel, and budgeting.

4. Simple Interest & Everyday Finance

  • Formula: I=P×R×T (Interest = Principal × Rate × Time).

  • Applying simple interest to savings and loans.

  • Everyday transactions: bills, receipts, budgeting, profit/loss.

  • Outcome: Students gain financial literacy skills for managing money responsibly.

5. Estimation & Rounding

  • Rounding numbers to nearest 10, 100, decimal places.

  • Estimating results to check reasonableness of calculations.

  • Applications: quick mental maths in shopping, measurement, and finance.

  • Outcome: Students develop strategies for efficient problem‑solving and error checking.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will:

  • Perform accurate calculations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and integers.

  • Apply percentages, ratios, and rates to everyday contexts.

  • Understand and calculate simple interest in financial situations.
