Polynomials 

In this lesson series, we will explore important polynomial concepts that will help you understand, simplify, expand, factorise and work confidently with algebraic expressions.

You will learn how to identify and work with polynomials, terms, coefficients, constants and degrees, and apply polynomial operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and factorisation to a variety of algebraic problems.

These foundation lessons are common to both Core and Pathways students at Level 5. We will begin by building a clear understanding of each polynomial concept through simple explanations, visual examples and step-by-step worked solutions.

Once you have mastered the foundation, you will practise questions appropriate to your level. Core students can progress to more challenging and multi-step polynomial problems, while Pathways students can strengthen their understanding through guided practice and reinforcement.

By the end of this lesson series, you should be able to:

• Understand what polynomials are and identify their different parts,
• Identify terms, coefficients, constants and the degree of a polynomial,
• Add and subtract polynomials by collecting like terms,
• Multiply and expand polynomial expressions,
